Design Furniture South Australia
Upon graduating, Stephen began a career in nursing, but his passion for making things never quite left him. He started frequently visiting Adelaide’s Jam Factory, and was encouraged to apply for their associate program and complete a Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology. Stephen was lucky enough to be accepted into Jam Factory’s two-year training program, and afterwards secure a studio within the space, where he presently works, making furniture under his business name – ROY.
One of Stephen’s most striking recent creations is his Brace hall stand, the first piece in his new collection, scheduled for release later this year. This simple, versatile storage system was initially developed last year, as part of a commission for architectural firm Woods Bagot, managed by Jam Factory Creative Director Jon Goulder. ‘This piece incorporates the single fixing cast metal bracket, Canadian rock maple, and drop-in, light weight aluminum shelves that allow the user to alter the unit to suit its environment, ’ Stephen mentions. We’re looking forward to seeing what’s next!
