The Water Discus, Dubai: Construction on this underwater complex, designed by a Polish firm for construction in Dubai, does not have a planned start date, though it is attracting interest around the world. The design firm has said the 1, 000 sq. metre complex, which would host a hotel, restaurant, spa and bar, would have both above and underwater construction. Diving would be available on site, as would other beach and water sports, for that beach resort experience. (Courtesy Deep Ocean Technology)

Utter Inn, Sweden: Guests reach this hotel room on Sweden's Lake Malaren by boat. Above the lake, the hotel floats, looking just like a traditional, red Swedish house. Climb down a ladder to arrive in your small, but cozy, underwater room. For an additional fee, the owner will even deliver dinner right to your door. (Plrk/Wikipedia)

Poseidon Undersea Resorts, Fiji: Developed by the president of U.S. Submarines, Inc., Poseidon Undersea Resorts had hoped to open a five-star property under the sea off a private island in Fiji. The $15, 000 per person, per week resort will feature hotel rooms and suites, a bar, gym, restaurant and undersea wedding chapel. Construction has yet to begin on the property, which was first slated to open in 2008. (Courtesy Poseidon Undersea Resorts)

The Hydropolis Underwater Resort Hotel, Dubai: This much-delayed Dubai project will see the construction of the world's first luxury underwater resort 20 metres below the surface of the Persian Gulf off of Dubai. Guests will be able to view sea life up close and stay in what the hotel claims will be 10-star accommodations. (Courtesy Hydropolis Underwater Resort Hotel)

Hilton's Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort, Maldives: The all-glass Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort is the first in the world located underwater. Jules' Undersea Lodge, Florida: Located nine metres under the ocean in Florida's Key Largo, this property is the only underwater hotel in the United States.
