Accommodation Cradle Mountain Tasmania Australia
To say Cradle Mountain is beautiful is an understatement. This is a place where it’s impossible to take a bad photo. Spend even just a few days here and you’ll come across lush green forests, glacial lakes, cascading rivers and incredible views of the areas beyond. This is also one of the only places in Australia with beech trees that change colours with the seasons, from dazzling emerald in spring and summer, to yellow and orange in autumn, to branches stripped bare in the frosty winter. Needless to say, even if you can’t make it in autumn, Cradle Mountain offers awesome sights all year round. Be sure to sit by one of the sparkling lake during sunset or sunrise, when hues or orange, blue and pink are beautifully reflected in the still water, or make your way up to the summit of the mountain for spectacular 360° views of nearby Dove Lake, Barn Bluff and Mount Ossa.
The best way to catch all these sights is to embark on one of the walking trails within the national park. Get introduced to the park on the two-hour Dove Lake Loop Track, which leads you under the shadow of Cradle Mountain or for something quick, take an easy, 10 minute stroll along the Visitor Centre Rainforest Walk. If you have more time, be enthralled on the 30 minute Enchanted Walk, which passes tall waterfalls, tranquil pools and dense rainforest. Craving a challenge? Cradle Mountain is also the starting point for the Overland Track, which measures 65km and runs to Lake St Clair at the other end of the park. Be sure to pack your camping gear and loads of supplies as a trip along this trail takes at least six days! Other ways to enjoy all that Cradle Mountain offers includes horse riding along the trails, a helicopter tour of the rugged mountains, or a meet and greet session with Tassie devils in the evening.
